About Gradient Systems
What we do
We believe the next generation of investment management will be shaped by the convergence of quantitative finance and artificial intelligence. Our mission is to transform advances in machine learning into robust, explainable, and scalable investment solutions that help investors navigate increasingly complex markets. By combining scientific rigour with practical investment expertise, we seek to develop systems that adapt to changing market conditions while maintaining a disciplined focus on risk, transparency, and long-term performance.
Our Journey
Headquartered in Cambridge, UK, the foundations of Gradient Systems were established in 2018, when members of the team first worked together at Secondmind (formerly PROWLER.io), one of the UK's leading artificial intelligence companies. There, they combined expertise in quantitative investment management and machine learning to develop AI-driven solutions for financial markets, including technology that underpinned investment products launched with institutional partners.
As demand for these capabilities grew, the team recognised the opportunity to create a dedicated business focused on applying advanced artificial intelligence to investment management. In 2020, Gradient Systems was established, enabling the team to continue serving existing clients while expanding its research and technology platform for a broader institutional investor base.
Who we are
Today, Gradient Systems combines decades of experience in systematic investing with deep expertise in artificial intelligence research. Members of the leadership team have been developing and managing quantitative investment strategies since the early 2000s across multiple asset classes and market regimes, while contributing to research in machine learning, probabilistic modelling, and decision intelligence.
Bringing together practical investment experience and published research in their respective fields, the team shares a common belief: that the most effective investment solutions emerge from the rigorous integration of financial expertise, scientific research, and engineering excellence. This principle continues to guide the development of our technology and the partnerships we build with institutional investors.
